Stephanie Draven posted a few suggestions in the previous thread for improving the cover art for Wrong Side of the Grave, most of them having to do with font choice/colors. I still kind of like the Papyrus font for the title, but I did a couple of versions using different fonts (for one, I chose Perpetua because a headstone engravers’ website suggested it as appropriately “stately”). I think I prefer the fonts that look more eroded, but that could just be me. Her point about my name disappearing a bit was a good one, though, and I tried a couple of different text effects to correct that.
So, here are three new and (I hope) improved versions:
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3
So, which version of my name and title do you like best? (You can mix and match. Believe it or not, all the names have a slightly different bevel setting.) I think I need to nail this down pretty soon, or I’ll be doing more cover art designing than writing!
I like option one. : )
Option 2 author name with Option 3 title treatment
Option 1 & 3 author name are too hard to read.
I really like Option 1. The font for the title is absolutely perfect imo.
I’ve been playing around with cover stuff for my NaNo novel (just for fun and inspiration) and it’s definitely something that you can spend a lot of time on. Really fun!
They’re all gorgeous, but I think I like the third one the best.
I am just loving option #1 — font is the easiest to read, and the gravestone text is more ‘gravestoney’ hehe
Option 2 author name — I agree, it’s easier to read. Re the title, either 1 or 3. I like the font of 3 best, but 1 may be more appropriate for a gravestone…?
I like the font on 3, but 1 is probably more like a gravestone. Only issue I have, which may be due to size of the picks, is that The Reapers is a bit tough to read. It needs to be a bit bigger or in bold or something.
I don’t have any strong feelings about the author name, but I do NOT like the #2 title font. I prefer #3, but #1 is okay.
